July 28, 2008:
Classic Sid Meier's Colonization for Free
Jason Bergman of 2K Games has revealed that the classic 1994 version of Sid Meier's Colonization will be released for free online, sometime in the near future.
In addition, the new issue of PC Gamer includes a disc of the classic version of the game. According to Bergman at Apolyton :
"The version of Colonization that comes with the PC gamer demo disc is a custom install of DOSBox. It has an installer/uninstaller and should work perfectly with Vista/Windows 9x/XP."
Great news for any Colonization fan, and especially for those who haven't had a chance to try Colonization yet. Some veteran players may have lost their old version -- or that old 3,5" floppy slot (how time does fly). In any case, this is a great opportunity for new players to get aquainted with the game concepts, and for older players to get nostalgic, while we wait for the new version.
We will keep you posted on when and where the download becomes available, but as previously mentioned you can get it today by getting the latest PC Gamer.
